… is the USS Hiroshima’s Chief Engineer.

Introduction
An engineer, born and bred, Yuna Saito is a warp systems specialist with years of experience and an abundance of creative problem solving.
Family
Both Mother and Father work at Starfleet shipyards as engineers. One younger brother who she cares for deeply and hopes one day will join Starfleet as well.
Character History
Born in Kyoto, Japan on Earth, Yuna Saito grew up surrounded by history, tradition, and technology. Her parents — both engineers at Utopia Planitia — fostered her love for complex systems early on. By the time she entered Starfleet Academy, Yuna was already designing custom warp field simulations in her spare time.
At the Academy, she majored in Warp Field Theory and Structural Systems Engineering, graduating with honors. Her capstone project — a theoretical emergency warp containment protocol for multi-nacelle vessels — was later referenced during Vesta-class development.
Her first posting was aboard the USS Takahashi (Miranda-class), where she quickly rose through the ranks due to her cool head under pressure and technical versatility. She later transferred to the USS Edinburgh (Luna-class), serving as Assistant Chief Engineer during multiple first contact and emergency relief missions. Her leadership during a critical plasma explosion on deck six earned her a Starfleet Commendation.
Known for her precision, tireless work ethic, and ability to balance logic with creativity, Yuna became a go-to officer for unconventional system fixes and long-term refit plans. After a brief assignment at Jupiter Station assisting with modular systems testing, she requested a return to active duty aboard a starship — seeking the chaos, camaraderie, and purpose that only deep space assignments provide.
Personality
Yuna is focused, methodical, and deeply driven by duty. Though outwardly calm, she thrives under pressure and treats every failure as an opportunity to improve the system — and herself. Off-duty, she’s surprisingly relaxed, with a sharp wit and a love for classical Earth engineering (she once rebuilt a 22nd-century warp coil for fun). She tends to lead by example rather than force, earning the respect of both junior and senior officers through reliability and precision.
Appearance
Japanese ancestry, early 30s. Shoulder-length black hair with streaks of red. Typically tied back in a low ponytail while on duty. Lean build, average height. Carries a signature engineering toolkit with a custom tricorder mod she designed herself. No visible tattoos, but a faint scar on her left hand — the result of a coolant line rupture during an EVA rescue years ago.
Languages spoken
Federation Standard, Japanese, a basic amount of Vulcan.
